.  I started at a crazy time for them because this past week, they were gearing up for one of their biggest events of the year.  Their leadership retreat was held at a campground in West Virginia.  The church believes firmly that their calling as a church is to invest in people and in leaders.  They believe this so firmly that they offer this leadership retreat to their leaders who are active in the church free of charge.  There were almost 300 people in attendance this past Friday and Saturday.  I really loved how they spent time teaching about leadership and helping their volunteers to sharpen their skills and develop new tools for being successful in their ministry.  That’s so cool…I love that they don’t just shove people into a ministry to give them the opportunity to serve, and then just leave them to figure it out on their own.  They give their leaders the “tools” to do their ministry well.

It was an interesting time for the production crew because we had a ton of crazy and insane things happen!  First, we had issues with getting the lighting racks flown.  Then, we had issues with DMX, then we realized that we had a bad dimmer pack up on the lighting rack.  After we finally got all of those issues squared away, we had plenty of other issues to deal with.  We had issues with a rental company showing up on time with our rental gear.  Eventually, it took them over a day too long to get the snake and screens to us.  We were past the start time of the event before the gear showed up.  What I was impressed with, was the grace that the leadership extended to the production staff and how much they applauded our efforts.  The leadership realized that the issues were out of our control, and they extended grace.  I really appreciated that.

I enjoyed the leadership retreat because I was able to hear different worship leaders in the church lead worship teams.  I was also able to hear three of the church’s pastors preach and hear their wisdom.

I am super tired at this point.  Tomorrow, we have staff meeting and then I’ll be heading home to Pennsylvania for some much needed time off and rest.  I’m excited to see my family and spend some time with them.
